Privacy Policy
Your information is not for sale. Your House Ledger is yours: private by default, exportable anytime, and never used to build a profile of you for advertisers.
Last updated: July 4, 2026
The short version
Your information is not for sale. We don’t sell it, rent it, or share it with third parties for their marketing purposes — not now, and not if this business is ever sold or changes ownership. Your House Ledger is yours: private by default, exportable anytime, and never used to build a profile of you for advertisers.
The rest of this policy explains exactly what we collect, why, and how it’s protected.
What we collect
Account information: your email address, and for professional accounts, your name, business name, and phone number if you choose to provide them.
House Ledger content: whatever you or a professional you’ve worked with choose to add — records of work performed, maintenance history, warranty information, documents, photos, asset details, and notes about your home.
Usage information: basic technical data needed to operate the service securely — sign-in timestamps, device/browser information for security purposes (e.g., detecting suspicious login activity), and error logs to fix bugs.
We do not collect: your exact home address unless you choose to add it to your own records, financial/payment card details (these are handled directly by our payment processor, Stripe, and never touch our servers), or any data from third-party smart-home, utility, or financial accounts — we don’t integrate with or pull data from those services.
How we use it
- To operate your House Ledger: storing, displaying, and letting you export the records you or your professional have added.
- To authenticate you securely (one-time email codes, not passwords).
- To process payments for professional subscriptions, gift ledgers, and add-ons, via Stripe.
- To send you transactional email: sign-in codes, gift notifications, and service updates. We do not send marketing email without your separate, explicit opt-in.
- To maintain and improve the security and reliability of the service.
We do not use your House Ledger content to train AI models, build advertising profiles, or share it with data brokers.
Who can see your data
- You, the homeowner who owns the ledger — full access.
- A professional who gifted you a ledger has access only to what they added before you claimed it, and only until you claim ownership. Once claimed, you control access.
- Anyone you explicitly invite via a contributor link — scoped to submitting specific work, not full access to your ledger.
- MyHouseLedger staff — access only as needed to provide customer support you’ve requested, or to investigate abuse/security issues. We do not browse user data otherwise.
- No one else. We do not sell, rent, license, or share your personal data or House Ledger content with third parties for their own marketing, advertising, or business purposes.
If this business is sold or changes ownership
This is a real possibility we want to be upfront about, not bury. If MyHouseLedger is acquired, merges, or transfers ownership, your data may transfer as part of that transaction so the service can continue to operate for you — but the commitment in this policy transfers with it. Specifically: any new owner must continue to honor the “not for sale” commitment above — no retroactive selling, renting, or third-party sharing of data collected under this policy. If a future owner intends to materially change how your data is used, you will be notified and given the choice to export your data and delete your account before any change takes effect.
Data security
- Passwordless authentication via one-time email codes — there is no password to be stolen or leaked in a breach.
- Industry-standard encryption in transit and at rest.
- Access to your account data is restricted at the database level so that even other users’ data is not accessible to you, and vice versa.
No system is perfectly secure, and we can’t guarantee absolute security, but we treat data protection as a core product requirement, not an afterthought.
Your rights and choices
- Request a copy of your data. Export functionality is in active development. Until self-serve export is available in the app, you can request a full copy of your House Ledger data by contacting us directly, independent of your subscription status.
- Delete your account. Contact us to request deletion of your account and associated data, subject to any legal retention requirements (e.g., payment records we’re required to keep for tax purposes).
- Correct your information. You can update your business profile and account details directly, or contact us for anything you can’t change yourself.
Children’s privacy
MyHouseLedger is not directed at or intended for use by children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect information from children under 13.
Changes to this policy
If we make material changes to this policy, we’ll notify account holders by email before the changes take effect, not just post a silent update.
